Playing Tangram 玩七巧板

★ “我教你怎么玩”，英文怎么说简短而地道？

Child: It's raining.

宝宝：下雨了。

What can I do inside?

我能在屋里干什么呢？

Mom: Let's play Tangram.

妈妈：咱们玩七巧板吧。

七巧板是一个游戏，因此在play后面直接加Tangram。

I'll teach you how.

我教你怎么玩。

Pull a chair up

把椅子拉过来，

and let's sit at the table.

咱们坐在桌子旁边。

Tangram is a kind of puzzle,

七巧板是一种智力游戏，

and is a good way to learn about shapes, ratios, and proportions.

是学习形状、比值和比例的好方法。

Child: Yeah, my teacher said we might be learning to do this next week.

宝宝：嗯，我们老师说我们下周可能学这个。

We'll be going over some geometry.

我们要学点几何。

Mom: Great, then you'll have a head start.

Child: Here. Oooh, could we make a rabbit, please?

Mom: Sure. Can you tell me some of the shapes we have here?

Child: There's several large triangles, some squares, and a…?

I'm not sure of this one.

Mom: That's a parallelogram.

读作 [ˌpærə'leləgræm]。

Try saying it.

Child: Para … parallelogram.

Mom: Very good. Now what shapes do we need to make the rabbit?

妈妈：真棒。那咱们拼兔子需要什么形状呢？

Child: We need a square, 2 large triangles, 1 medium triangle, 2 small triangles, and a parallelogram.

宝宝：我们需要1个正方形、两个大三角形、1个中三角形、两个小三角形和一个平行四边形。

Look, the 7 tiles there are all we need.

看，这7块正好是咱们需要的。

Mom: Place the ears first.

妈妈：先摆耳朵。

What do we need for those?

咱们需要什么形状？

Child: A parallelogram.

宝宝：一个平行四边形。

Mom: Make sure to turn it in the right direction.

妈妈：一定要摆对方向。

We can study concepts like angles and lines when we play Tangram.

咱们玩七巧板的时候，可以学学角和线这样的概念。

Child: The square.

Mom: It does. It has four.

Nice work. Let's try to make something else.

There are over 6,500 possible combinations,

so we could make just about anything!

We can even make numbers and letters.

Child: I'll make a 'J' since my name is Jonathan.

How do you make the curve at the bottom?

Mom: Use a triangle,

but make sure to turn it upside down so the top point is pointing down.

但是一定要倒着放，让顶点朝下。

Mom: Exactly.

Child: I wonder what Ms. Bailey will make us do in class.

宝宝：我想知道贝利老师会在课上让我们拼什么。

Mom: Well, let's make a few shapes from your textbook.

妈妈：好，咱们再照着你的课本拼一些图形。

Let's make sure to use all 7 pieces,

咱们一定要把7块都用上，

七巧板的块，既可以用tile，表示它是小薄片，也可以用piece这种“块、片、条”的通用说法。

so that way we really get a challenge!
